Madrid Rio was an ambitious urban planning and infrastructure project in Madrid, Spain. Madrid Rio consisted in digging 43 km of tunnels into which the exit routes and motorways of a six-kilometre section south Madrid would disappear underground. This six-kilometre of motorways and exits went along the Manzanares river. The completed project allowed the Manzanares river to recover back its shore and gardens around it. This project was designed by Dutch studio West 8.
