The Winter Park SunRail Station is designed to be one of twelve proposed light-rail stops that go through Orlando, FL. This particular stop is located in a park surrounded by an area of high-end businesses, restaurants, and also located a few blocks away from Rollins College. The daily coming and going of the SunRail train, shutting commuters and visitors alike, provides additional activity, and desirability to surrounding businesses and residences.
The community center building is designed to bring individuals from the surrounding community to the Winter Park and SunRail area. The program was chosen based on the needs of the Winter Park residence. The community center will also bring commuters to Winter Park and incorporate the SunRail station into the use of the space. The station and community center building were designed with a similar design style intended to compliment and react with one another.
The concept of the project is to design two buildings that blend well into the existing environment, while having their own presence. The building was designed to be simplistic with clean lines and carefully designed views to overlook the park and other surroundings. The large overhang facing the East engages the SunRail user as trains approach from both the North and the South.
