The Slinky Springs to Fame bridge is illuminated at night in the western German city of Oberhausen (north of Dusseldorf). The 350-meter-long bridge was designed by German artist Tobias Rehberger, and was conceived to be part of the Ruhr area’s 2010 European Capital of Culture programme. Instead of the programme commissioning a bridge, it was the artist who came up with the suggestion of building one in the site. The result, a spiral inspired by the “Slinky” the toy developed in the 1940s, is a spectacular and colourful pedestrian bridge.
