The COR Cellars Winery project is a new modern winery is located along the Columbia River in Lyle, WA. The proposal for the new structure on this 20 acre site responds to this unique landscape and the owner’s desire to have a protected, multi-functional courtyard. The Columbia River pulls strong westerly winds up through the gorge and becomes an element to deal with while working outside much of the year. The new structure creates a courtyard that is a respite from the constant winds, allowing workers to use the courtyard for daily operations and also offering a protected event and gathering space for tasting room visitors. The structure berms into the earth along the north while opening out to grand views of Mount Hood from the tasting room on the south corner. The design accommodates the existing metal bottling shed allowing this structure to complete the enclosed courtyard at the east end. The building program includes a new tasting room, barrel storage, office, kitchen, and viewing deck.
